What Is Reiki Healing, Physically And Spiritually? Are There 2 Kinds Of Reiki Healing?
Are there 2 kinds of Reiki healing? What is Reiki healing, and how does it work?
Reiki healing how it began for the founder
On Mt. Kurama in Kyoto, USUI Mikao Sensei became enlightened. He was meditating and fasting when the enlightenment of Reiki came to him. He lived and died as a Buddhist, not as a Christian minister, as some believe. In the beginning he might not have asked: “what is Reiki healing”, until he suddenly became injured. Usui’s first Reiki healing experience was spontaneously forced upon him.
The Legend says, as he was climbing down a mountain, the same one where he had been meditating for 21 days, and received the enlightenment of the Reiki energy, he hurt his foot.
The Legend says the injury made his toe bleed, and it hurt!
When he reached down and held his hands above his foot, the bleeding slowed and stopped, and the pain soon went away.
This was Usui’s first taste of the miracle like, spontaneous, quick healing of Reiki. Beyond that he began to figure out a method of Reiki healing, and healed a young girl’s toothache, and the abbot’s arthritis.
This is how he discovered Reiki
Thus, he had become enlightened to a healing energy, and he called this healing energy Reiki.
After that he opened a clinic in 1922 and treated many people, and was eventually honoured be the Meiji Emperor himself for his work.
What is Reiki healing on a physical level?
For me, healing through Reiki means to balance the energy of a person, to activate self healing, on a physical level.
Because we all know sickness comes from stress, and Reiki is also very relaxing, and when your body can relax, and releases stress, the self healing is activated.
But it is also about becoming whole again.
Reiki can help to heal both acute and chronic disorders. It’s great for healing immediate pain, or pain that seems like it will never go away. It is great for deep relaxation too.
If you have pain, to feel whole on a physical level is difficult. Just a common neck, shoulder and upper-back pain, can ruin any feeling of balance or wholeness.
So it is important to use Reiki to get rid of the pain. You can also combine stretching, and taking walks to reduce stress levels in this case.
Back pain is often caused by several things, like the lack of exercise, and poor posture, and even imbalances in the liver and gallbladder.
Focusing the Reiki healing energy, not just on the centers of pain like the shoulders and back, but also on the liver and gallbladder areas can be a powerful part of a treatment.
There are other reason why you might have back pain
It could be from inflammation, or old injuries, or repeated lopsided movements and imbalances from work place routines. And then you may be holding back emotions, or you have too many responsibilities, and this adds to the painful disorder.
The good news is that Reiki healing can help you with all of this!
(Of course it is important to see a certified medical doctor for any condition or illness, as Reiki does not replace a health care professional.)
Here are some kinds of physical Reiki healing treatments:
-Reiki first aid
-Treating specific ailments
-Acute pain treatments
-Chronic pain treatments
-Colds and flu
-and much more
What is Reiki healing on a spiritual level?
What is Reiki spiritual healing? For me it is about waking up to my own truth, to who I really am, by discovering my wholeness through the Reiki healing light of wisdom.
Spiritual healing Reiki is something that helps me to see who I really am, how I think, the negative patterns I have, and it heals me on a spiritual level. When I do this for myself and others I become a spiritual healer.
Spiritual Reiki healing lets me grow in spiritually creative ways, and when I overcome my old belief systems, and negative energy patterns, I am able to overcome the things that stop me from success, so I can experience true freedom and self realization.
Like on the physical level, I need to heal my whole self, discarding all negativity so I can live a fulfilling life that is vital, yet simple, and full of joy.
Reiki also opens my eyes to that fact that we are all connected energetically, and we all share the same consciousness. It helps me to live in the moment, and find inner peace.
Here are just a few spiritual Reiki healing themes to work on:
-Past, present, future cleansing
-Healing the inner child
-Talking and listening to your heart
-Emotional healing and balancing
-Dealing with negative thought patterns
-Dealing with anger, frustration and depression
-and much more
What is Reiki spiritual healing?
A definition of Spiritual from Collins dictionary: “Spiritual means relating to people’s thoughts and beliefs, rather than to their bodies and physical surroundings.”
But I believe that we create our own realities through how we think. If this is true, then spiritual healing directly relates to physical healing, because if I’m creating my reality through the way I think and believe, then I’m also creating the physical disorders in my life.
So for me our thoughts and beliefs, are directly related to our bodies and physical surroundings.
In this way I do regular Reiki self treatments, to help reprogram the negative and harmful way I sometimes think, using the mental and emotional Reiki symbol.
This kind of reprogramming Reiki treatment is one that will go on for a long time, because reprogramming the way you think is not easy, and all of our negative patterns are dug in deep, so to speak, in our subconscious minds.
Spiritual healing Reiki is fun to play with
What do I mean? For me the way Reiki is done is not set in stone. After learning Reiki levels 1, 2, 3, and now having all the attunements, symbols, tools, e-books, techniques, and meditations, I can venture out on my own, and experiment with this amazing energy healing.
I can combine Reiki healing techniques if I like. I can put aura chakra clearing together with energy beaming. Why not?
Or how about combining smoothing and raking the aura after extracting harmful energies? Or why not do an aura and chakra balancing while recharging the energy? I could do mental and emotional healing with symbols, with the intention of healing the inner child. Or healing the past, including past lives, with pre-charged crystals. A Reiki shower can be set up after scanning the aura for blockages, to help release negative energy over time as well.
The list of ideas and combinations are many
I personally use Reiki beaming with almost every kind of treatment, or Reiki session I do. For me, it helps to intensify, and in some cases, speed up the process.
Reiki beaming is a simple process of activating a Reik beam of energy, which enters the aura through the crown chakra.
Once I set this up, I proceed to do any veriety of traditional Reiki sessions, or ones that I make up by following my intuition. I might do this in combination of the Reiki symbols, which may be repeated if I feel the need to do this, for what ever the disorder or intention I am focused on.
Spiritual healer and your intuition
You don’t need to be doing Reiki riffing like me, to become a spiritual healer. All you need to do it is learn Reiki and follow tradition.
But do not limit yourself.
Always follow your intuition.
Practicing Reiki on a regular basis, and paying close attention to how you, as a spiritual healer, react to how effectively Reiki is working, will train your intuition over time, and this will improve your skills.
It is important to also be grounded
Not every one is a monk, and can meditate all day long. We should not forget to be grounded.
I think being grounded, and yet having a sold spiritual connection to a high awareness is great for when practicing Reiki. It helps to integrate Reiki into your daily life, into your work place, or when you go shopping, to add calm to the storm, so to speak.
Being properly grounded, and at the same time, connected to a higher awareness, will also help your intuition to flourish as you now can connect them both.
Grounding means to connect and become
one with the Earth and your surroundings
To do this during a Reiki session have your feet side by side. Then concentrate on your
feet, and feel the connection to the ground.
If you are lying down simply feel the mattress under
your body. Don’t cross your legs.
That should be enough. If you know another grounding
technique, go right ahead and do it during a Reiki session.
Some people like to imagine that they are a tree, and thier roots go deep down into the Earth.
Spiritual Reiki healing for life challenges
Life is challenging. There are many times in life when we are forced to experience a change, and this can be hard.
My attitude on this is that change is a great thing!
The universe is in constant flux. It is always changing. Thus, change is the way of the universe, and if you resist change you are resisting the natural law of the universe.
Every time I have taken a big step, and made a huge change in may life, every time I have thrown caution to the wind, and spontaneously embarked on willing change, the universe has always rewarded me.
It does this because I am following the way of the universe, so to speak.
Spiritual Reiki healing is great for the challenges of change in your life. All losses and changes offer us valuable opportunities to train ourselves to let go of old habits, patterns, and thought process.
After a break up, and we feel bitter, angry, disappointed, sad, and lonely; we can turn this deep experience of suffering and loss into something postive, to encourage us to take the first step on the path towards spiritual growth.
This is not easy, but Reiki can make it easier.
Reiki can help here?
Reiki is not there to stop a separation, in fact it might help to cause one, if the end result means you will grow from the experience, and attain an even better life.
It is important to accept fate, and see what comes, because when change enters your life, like I say, be open to it, and the universe will reward you.
But in a break up Reiki can offer support during the process, helping us to separate in a loving way. You want to let go of any anger and blame in order to heal.
Reiki can help to transform negative feelings, and help you to overcome the ego. It also helps us to see our partner’s beauty, love and uniqueness.
To help yourself out of this often sudden and traumatizing challenge, give yourself Reiki through a self treatment every day, making sure you are using the mental and emotion symbol, to cleanse and ease the negativity in your life, and pain.

After receiving the master attunement, you can start to go further and become a Certified Reiki Teacher. You do not need to wait to do this step.
Becoming a Reiki Teacher is a wonderful way to share your knowledge and experiences with family, friends and clients.
But it does not make you suddenly a better or wiser or more enlightened person than anyone else.
It simply means that as a Reiki Teacher you are now able to pass on the gift of Reiki to others.
As a Reiki Master and Teacher you are still learning, and growing, and you are committed to doing your best on your personal and spiritual path. As a Reiki teacher you are seeking to not only enhance your own life, but also the lives of others.
Reiki healing on a spiritual level is also about mental healing
If you need to seek more clarity in life, then mental healing through Reiki is a great opportunity to increase your awareness related to your past programming and conditioning.
So much of the reality we create for ourselves comes from the way we think, comes from the programming lodged deeply in our subconscious mind, and is based on strong emotions, fears, depression, sleeplessness, and addictions.
A lot of these problems come from our past, from our childhood. We need to heal the inner child, and we need to change the way we think.
In this way we need mental healing
Many people think that physical problems, ailments, and financial problems, or relationship problems, are directly related to the material world; without realizing that these things are also connected to the spiritual world, which the mental world is a part of.
Reiki can bring healing to our entire being, including the mental level. This can promote healing in the physical body, and sometimes prevent a disease from appearing through mental healing.
Using a Reiki mental healing technique, is like bringing light onto an issue or problem. You can ask the subconscious and conscious mind to bring greater clarity and understanding into your focus, and request to reprogram a belief system, or show negative thoughts to be revealed to you.
Reprogramming the subconscious mind is a big task
But it can be done, and you can begin by learning how to connect the subconscious with the conscious mind, and this will provide intuition, insights, and clarity through dreams, pictures, visualization, messages and instinctive feelings, memories, and so-called coincidences.
Daniela has a great course called “How To Create The Karma You Love” that teaches you how to connect with the real world, and your subconscious world. She uses a journalling technique that helps you to discover your negative, hindering thought patterns, and will show you how to create and transform your thought patterns into new patterns that will benefit you.
There is no reason why you can’t learn Karma Journaling, and combine this with Reiki energy, and Reiki mental healing.
Another course that works great with Reiki is Daniela’s “Boost Your Intuition.”
Developing your intuition means more than just receiving information, and giving readings. Developing your intuition also means developing the awareness you have about yourself and your surroundings.
The focus is to learn how to be aware of information that your Guides might send to you, or to be aware of the information within yourself and your surroundings. Information is everywhere, you just need to be aware of it.
This is why “Boost Your Intuition” is so unique, because what you will learn here is the basis of any intuitive work.
Through a mental Reiki healing session, which uses symbols, you can increase your intuition too.
So What is Reiki healing?
Learning Reiki might be a huge transformative leap, and change for you, or not. But if you take the leap, the universe will reward you!
So what is Reiki healing? In the end, Reiki healing is a way for you to change and transform your entire being, and reality, to become the person you deserve to be.

When my husband was terminally ill and had been in the hospital for a few months, a woman came in to offer a Reiki session. My husband agreed, despite the fact that he normally wouldn’t have bought into that sort of “nonsense”. He said it helped him to feel more comfortable and had her come back several times to do sessions with him. My sister is a nurse and she also professes to its usefulness. For those who will still insist it’s psychosomatic, I say, “So what if it is?”. If it works, who cares why? How many people overcome insurmountable odds to succeed at something they’ve put their mind to? Isn’t that psychosomatic?
Thank you so much for sharing this Cynthia. It is psychosomatic if that’s what we want to call it, and it works. The name we give it is not as important as the result. Reiki healing though, has been proven scientifically not to be a placebo effect, during a study in Canada, back in mid 2000. Which means it still had an effect on patients even when they were not aware that Reiki healing was being given to them. Putting your mind to something and overcoming insurmountable odds makes sense to me, because I believe we create our own realities through the way we think. (Read more about: Biocentrism.) If Reiki is just an invention of the mind, I’m fine with that, because I’m always focused on the result. The one thing I noticed is that some people are more susceptible to Reiki than others. I’m not sure why, but from my experience it might have something to do with expectation. Those who have too much expectation often block the flow of Chi. Anyway, thanks again for your beautiful comment Cynthia.
This is the first time I have heard about Raiki’s treatment and it has attracted a lot of attention. The cure is not always in official medicine, sometimes it is also found in traditional medicine. At least I understand this as a traditional medicine. Reading especially attracted me to the spiritual Reiki. The most important moment in the treatment of any disease is to convince the patient that he will be better than the offered therapy and he really gets better. Thanks, I learned something new 🙂
I had heard about Reiki healing in a very casual way prior so my knowledge as a therapeutic approach is limited. I therefore read the article first trying to understand the origin of Reiki. I was given the ‘birth story’ of Usui, the opening of the first clinic in 1922 and how it helped people at the time leading up to him being honoured by the Emperor. This provides a good contextual backdrop. Well done.
The article then goes on to discuss the Reiki approach and the common ailments that it positively addresses. This information was also useful for me to appreciate the application and the wide array of common ailments it positively addresses. I believe that your article would be aided here by providing reference to scientific studies which support Reiki. Thus, the ‘naysayers’ who condemn Reiki to a touchy feely approach would be diluted.
What I found also informative is how the Reiki could be further supported for its efficacy e.g. being grounded. I think this is a honest way to say that this is not a solo pancea and that some effort or pre requisite is required to make it work. I was wondering where one could learn all of this and of course you had that info as well, right up to the Masters Level
I found this topic interesting to read. It was simple enough to follow and at minimum made me aware of an approach which has had success in treating with many ailments. It therefore in my mind could be considered in addition to a conventional medical approach, which I think was the intent of the article.
I have found this to be very intriguing. I have heard of Reiki before as my sister tried explaining it to me but I didn’t quite get it! This has helped me to understand what it is about. Do you practice this also? I know there is an energy with us all and I believe this would help a lot of people find more comfort and understand more of their inner self. How long does it take to really start gaining that inner peace with ones self once you start training? Thanks,
Thanks for you questions Ken. Yes I practice Reiki on a regular basis, and it really helps me to understand my inner self. Gaining that inner peace with ones self once you start the training depends on the individual. Some gain a feeling of pure joy from their very first Reiki sessions, some people develop a longer lasting feeling of inner peace over time. It depends on personal experience, willingness, and being open to the Reiki energy, and most of all: having no exceptions. Just let Reiki do the work, and you will find your inner-peace. But training in the Reiki levels can speed up your journey toward true inner peace.
Thanks your your feed back some great points and criticisms in your comment, I appreciate it.
Hi Emaku, Reiki can not promise cures, or even healing, but is Reiki healing real? I think it is, from my personal experience. You are right when you say the cure is not always in official medicine, sometimes it is also found in traditional medicine. I would just like to add that not even your doctor can promise to cure you. Doctors just try their best to find a cure with the knowledge they have, And so do Reiki practitioners. And yes, it is a very important moment in a treatment that the patient needs to be open to a cure. Healing can not begin if the patient is not willing to be healed.
